GV II

Pair of gate piers with gates. Formerly at South Lodge of Bold
Hall, removed to this site (probably in 1950s). Probably
c1800. Sandstone ashlar piers, wrought-iron gates. Rusticated
stone piers approx. 1m square and 3m high, with moulded
cornices and shallow flat tops.
Double carriage gates with single pedestrian side gates, in
simple spear-headed form with arch bracing to the carriage
gates and cross-bracing to the side gates, both sets hung on a
pair of elaborate open-work standards which are rectangular in
plan, with acorn finials to the corners, scrolled and circular
decoration between the intermediate bars, and surmounted by
tall scrolled brackets carrying lamp-holders.
Forms group with Nos 100 & 102 (qv) approx. 10m north-west,
and with Hesketh Arms opposite (qv).
