Commercial building. Dated 1895 on parapet; altered. Red brick
with sandstone dressings. Renaissance style.
EXTERIOR: 4 and 3 storeys; 2 plus 2 bays. Ground floor has C20
shops flanking foot passage. Upper floors pilastered, with
shaped gable to left half; upper floors have 4 wooden canted
oriels with arched centre lights, modillioned cornice carried
across, and the first and fourth are 2-storeyed with red tiled
pentice roofs on brackets: upper lights of right-hand pair
have original geometrical stained glass, as have those of the
windows above them. Third-floor windows of left portion have
round-headed lights. 2 panels over second- and third-floor
windows have gilded floral tiles. Parapets of both parts
incorporate carved segmental pediments with date 1895 in the
second and monograms in the others.
