GV II

Shop, formerly a pair of shops, with attached verandah. Later
C19; altered. Painted stucco on brick, slate roof. Italian
palazzo style. Rectangular plan at right-angles to street.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and 2 bays, symmetrical. C20 shop fronts
at ground floor; above, each bay has plain pilasters to both
upper floors, a heavy bracketed cornice and a parapet with
pierced roundels, and an arcaded 4-light window on each floor,
those at first floor with tall round-headed lights,
semi-colonnettes with stylized foliage to the capitals,
hoodmoulds with foliated stops and foliated spandrels, and a
sunk panel crossing the heads; those at second floor shorter
and segmental-headed, with simple colonnettes.
The attached verandah, of 3 unequal bays, has cast-iron
columns with vase pedestals, crocket caps, foliated open-work
brackets and a single-pitched glazed roof.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with verandah attached to Nos 393-421 adjoining to
the right (qv); part of the series of verandahs which
characterizes this street.
