II

Villa, now 5 flats. 1889, altered in 1893, by GS Packer. Red
brick in stretcher bond, with dressings of yellow brick, buff
terracotta and some sandstone; slate roof. Eclectic style with
some Moorish touches. Rectangular double-fronted plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys over basement; 3 bays. Symmetrical, with
narrow gabled bays flanking a wide recessed centre which is
bridged at ground floor by one wide semicircular arch of red
brick and at first floor by a balustraded balcony which has 2
round-headed yellow brick arches with enriched spandrels,
crossed by a red brick Lombard frieze carrying a yellow brick
and balustraded parapet.
The doorway, under the ground floor arch and off-set to the
left, is approached by lateral steps to the right (protected
by cast-iron railings) and a raised terrace with enriched
front wall and terminal piers bearing urns. Behind the balcony
above is a very large semicircular window with arched and
radiating glazing bars, and stained glass.
The outer bays each have 12/1 sashed windows on both floors,
all with chamfered stone surrounds. Above those at first floor
is a Lombard frieze like that in the centre, and a gable in
Moorish style with an arcaded band, tourelles with mosaic
panels and a 2-tier upstand with semicircular pediment, this
and the tourelles all surmounted by small ball finials. The
side walls are devoid of ornament.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
