GV II
House. c1870 for the Grant-Thorold estate, with late C20
addition and alterations. Red brick, with late C20
colour-coating to original section; pantile roof. Additions in
matching style and materials. C17 Dutch style. T-shaped on
plan: early southern section originally 2-rooms with central
stack, entrance porch and matching porch-like addition at
gable ends, that to east lengthened in C20; C20 kitchen wing
to rear.
EXTERIOR: single-storey with attic, 2 windows to south front.
Chamfered plinth. South side of main range has a pair of
3-light windows with glazing bars in chamfered reveals with
sills beneath segmental brick arches. Porches to left and
right gable-ends each have segmental-arched openings with
chamfered reveals, a diamond-shaped stone tablet with a
cross-slit above, and a pointed arched gable with moulded
brick kneelers, ovolo-moulded cornice and coping; entrance to
right (east) blind, that to left with an inserted window with
glazing bars. Gables to main range have 2-light attic windows
with glazing bars in chamfered reveals with sills beneath
segmental pointed brick arches; shaped gables with moulded
brick cornices and coping. Central corniced stack with 3
octagonal shafts.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
One of a series of houses built for Alexander Grant-Thorold of
Weelsby Old Hall for the Grant-Thorold Estate in a style
matching that of nearby Clee Hall Farmhouse, Clee Road (v).
