Pair of houses. c1900. Red brick and imitation timber framing with plastered panels. Welsh slate roof. Handed pair of houses in a range approximately U-shaped on plan. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 6 first-floor windows. 4-window middle section with twin central octagonal turrets, projecting gabled outer wings, and entrances in the angles. Chamfered plinth capped with blue brick. Each house has a flight of stone steps with low coped balustrade walls to an internal entrance porch. Basket-arched outer doorway with chamfered jambs, rusticated brick quoins and carved stone head with moulded imposts, panelled spandrels and architrave. Porches have polychrome tiled floor, dado rail and part-glazed panelled door with shaped lights in glazed and panelled screen with engraved lights. No.34 has a later 2-fold panelled outer door beneath a radial fanlight with slender copper glazing bars. Octagonal turrets have plate-glass casements to each floor. Outer wings each have a projecting ground-floor brick bay window and flanking shaped wooden brackets carrying a jettied first floor. Bay window has 2 lights to front and one to each side with sills and shaped lintels. Deep continuous dentilled and moulded wooden first-floor string course. Balconies above entrances, with pierced splat balusters, moulded piers and rails. No.34 has original cross-window to balcony with moulded architrave, leaded lights with coloured glass; No.33 has later French window and overlight. Wings: vertical timber panelling to front and sides, single tripartite 4-light window with central projecting triangular-pointed 2-light section, beneath continuous pulvinated cornice, and Y-framed gable with deep bracketed eaves. Central turrets each have a similar cornice at eaves level, and a short vertical-panelled octagonal stage above, topped by a short spire with splayed base and a ball finial. Moulded bargeboards with finials to gables; shaped and pierced eaves boards to remainder, including turret. All windows, apart from those to balconies, have moulded wood mullions, large panes below and smaller segmental-arched panes above. Crested ridge-tiles. 3 ridge stacks with panelled sides and dentilled cornices, original pots.

Right return has pair of flat-roofed ground-floor wooden bay windows with similar glazing to front windows, continuous first-floor corniced string course; pair of single sashes to first floor. Left return similar but with a brick chimneybreast to the right instead of a bay window. INTERIOR: moulded cornices and ceilings, round-arched openings to bay windows with moulded corbels and archivolts. No.34 has Adam-style ceiling to front room; C17-style panelled surround and overmantel to recessed front fireplace. Staircases with bolection-panelled string, pierced splat balusters and bold newel with carved relief panels. Part of a series of stylish houses built around Peoples Park in the 1890s and early 1900s, when the town was flourishing as a fishing port.
