School, now theatre club. The building is in 2 parts: a
single-storey wing to the street, dated 1841 in the frieze;
and a large, 2-storey wing to the rear of c1890. The front
wing of stucco and cobbles, the rear of brick and stucco,
roofs of slate. 3-window range.
EXTERIOR: the front wing is double-fronted with a recessed
centre, and Tudor-Gothic in style. Pointed-arched entrance
under a rectangular architrave and hoodmould, panelled door of
original design; flanking flat-arched window with splayed
reveals and hoodmoulds; frieze with recessed lettering 'CHRIST
CHURCH SCHOOLS ERECTED AD 1841'; central gable with stucco
shield and flanking shaped gables with blind flat-arched
windows under hoodmoulds; both returns have flat-arched
windows as for street front and gables with shields.
The later wing has one-window range either side of the first
one; the windows have shallow cambered arches with gauged
brick heads and keystones, triple sashes with top lights, and
cornices to the first floor; external stacks between the
windows with arched gulleys for rainwater, original rainwater
goods and triangular pilaster strips; shaped gables flanked at
the corners of the building by stucco consoles, coped with
stucco and having intricate finials; shaped gables to north
and south.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Dwarf wall to street with square, stuccoed and corniced gate
piers, either side of 1841 wing.
