Terraced houses. c1846. Built by Thomas Cubitt. Stucco. Roofs
of slate to Nos 4 and 5, the rest parapeted.
EXTERIOR: Nos 4 and 5 have 3 storeys and dormers over
basement; Nos 6 and 7 have 3 storeys and attic storey over
basement. One window each. All openings are flat arched. Steps
up to each entrance with doors of original design much
altered. To the left of each entrance is a canted bay with
tripartite windows; ground floor treated as banded
rustication. Cast-iron brackets and railings to first-floor
balcony, that to Nos 4 and 5 continuous; balcony to Nos 6 and
7 continuous. First-floor canted bay with floor-to-ceiling
tripartite windows in the centre of the elevation, not on axis
with the bay below. The bay to No.5 extended to second floor;
cornice to first-floor bay, and to second floor of No.5.
Storey band between second floor and attic storey of Nos 6 and
7. Projecting cornice to attic of Nos 6 and 7. Remnants of
original sashes to first-floor bays and second-floor windows
of No.4, 3 x 6, and dormers of the same unit, 3 x 3; to No.7,
3 x 3. Each basement has 2 windows with 3 x 6 sashes of
original design. No.7 has, to the left of the entrance, a
fluted Ionic column and impost block with entablature in place
of cast-iron balcony bracket; this feature identical to one
found on No.8 (qv). Stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Railings to stairs and area.
Nos 1-17 Belgrave Place (consecutive) (qv) form an important
group.
