Terraced houses. Early C19. Stucco. Roof obscured by blocking
course.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and attic over basement. 2 windows each.
Up stairs to round-arched entrance with fanlight, No.16 with
vermiculated architrave and keystone. No.16 has full-height
quoin strips at party walls. Banded rustication to ground
floor of Nos 17-18. To left of central unit, single-storey
canted bay with tripartite, flat-arched windows with rounded
corners; plain pilasters at corners. Triple window to left of
entrances to Nos 16 and 18. All windows flat arched.
First-floor balcony to Nos 17 and 18 with cast-iron railings.
Storey band between first and second floors of Nos 17 and 18.
Entablature to attic of Nos 16 and 17. Cornice to second floor
of No.16 is more elaborate than the other 2. Parapets of Nos
17 and 18 now much altered; originally the 3 units were
treated as a single composition topped by a pediment of which
only traces remain over No.17.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Railings to stairs and areas.
Nos 16-18 (listed on 20.8.71) form a group with Nos 1-13 (qv)
and Nos 19-31 (qv). No.15, to the left, which has 3 storeys
over basement and one-window range, is now included with Nos
16-18 for its group value.
