Terraced houses. Nos 24-26 early C19; No.23 c1825 and probably
designed by Amon Wilds and Charles Augustin Busby. Stucco.
Roofs of slate.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and dormers over basement. Nos 23-25 one
window each; No.26 has a 2-window range. Round-arched
entrances with fanlights, those to Nos 23 and 24 have
architraves interrupted by impost blocks and keystone, those
to Nos 25 and 26 have rusticated voussoirs. To left of
entrance rises a canted bay which is full height on Nos 24 and
25, and nearly full height on Nos 23 and 26; the top 2 storeys
of the bay to No.23 are segmental; all the bay windows are
tripartite, those to Nos 24 and 25 have projecting sills
supported on console brackets. All windows and dormers are
flat arched. Nos 24 and 25 have a storey band moulded as a
cornice between the ground and first floors. On the party
walls of Nos 23 and 24 rise pilaster strips from the first
through the second floors; the capital of each is a block
decorated with a bull's eye. On the party walls of Nos 25 and
26 are pilaster strips of the Tuscan order, rising from the
first through the second floors. Stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Railings to stairs and area. Plaque near entrance of No.25 to
comedian Max Miller (b.1895), who lived in this house from
1948 until his death in 1963.
No.23 was listed on 20.8.71.
