Terraced houses. Late C18. Stucco, except for No.15 which is
faced in cobbles and has painted brick dressings and quoin
strips, and No.17 which has painted brick quoin strips. Roof
of Nos 12, and 14-18 of tile, of Nos 12A of slate.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and dormer over half basement. All have
one-window range except for No.16 which has a 2-window range.
Flat-arched entry with overlight filled with original
decorative glazing bars at Nos 12A and 14; this framed by
pilasters, those to Nos 12A, 14, and 18 are panelled and of
the Tuscan order, with brackets springing from capitals to
support a porch formed from raking cornices only; Nos 12, 15,
have continuous pilaster strips which swell into brackets
supporting porches similar to the others. The entrance to
No.16 is the most elaborate of the group: round arched with
plain archivolts and fanlight of decorative glazing; the
framing Tuscan pilasters are panelled; above the capitals
spring a pair of broad volute brackets which support a raking
cornice porch roof. Beside the entries to Nos 12A and 16 is
canted bay with tripartite windows; in No.16 this bay supports
a first-floor balcony currently under restoration. Bay to
No.17 canted and full height, with tripartite windows.
Otherwise all windows to right of entrance on the ground floor
are tripartite. Above entrance to No.16 is a single window on
the first and second floor each. All windows flat arched
except for ground- and first-floor windows of No.15 which are
camber arched. Ground floor of No.18 has banded, chamfered
rustication and a storey band between the first and second
floors. Nos. 12A, 14, and 18 have cornice and parapet, Nos 12
and 17 parapet only, and Nos 15 and 16 blocking course. One
flat-arched dormer each. Stacks to party walls. Railings to
stairs and areas. Cast-iron flower guards to ground floor
windows of Nos 15 and 16.
