Statue of Queen Victoria. 1897. By Nicoli. Presented by Sir
John Blaker. White marble statue on a stone base consisting of
octagonal steps, square plinth in 3 stages with consoles to
the corners and lozenge patterns on the faces of the first and
principal stage.
Victoria Gardens was, in the C19, known as the North Steine
Enclosures and were reserved for subscribers for most of the
century; they were fully opened to the public on the occasion
of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, which this statue also
celebrates.
