II

Large house divided into flats. c.1830s with later alterations. Mass wall construction, stuccoed and painted; slate roof; stacks with rendered shafts with bands.
Plan: Large rectangular block with entrance on the W side with stair beyond and service block to rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-bay front with front door to left. Deep moulded cornice and eavesband below parapet. Steps up to pilastered doorcase with entablature and cornice; doorcase with panelled reveals. Windows have moulded architraves and are glazed with 12-pane hornless sashes; 2 windows to ground floor; 3 windows to first floor, the centre window blocked. The right return preserves 2 first and 2 ground floor similar windows plus two small C20 windows. The end of the service block at the right end has no parapet and a hipped slate roof and had 12-pane hornless sashes.
INTERIOR: partially inspected. Original staircase survives with stick balusters and mahogany handrail; ground floor shutters survive and there may be other features of interest.
Group value in an area of mixed high quality and modest housing of the first half of the C19.
