Terraced houses. Built over several years from 1849. By Amon
Henry Wilds. These houses form the eastern, 2-storey range of
Park Crescent, matching the western, 2-storey range at Nos
1-16 (qv). Stucco, roofs of slate.
EXTERIOR: 2 and 3 storeys, 3 windows each. The standard design
is: entrance bay slightly set back with that of the adjoining
house; flat-arched entrance with moulded architrave, moulded
cornice, overlight and panelled door of original design;
quoins between entrance bay and the rest; all windows
flat-arched with moulded architraves, the middle window on the
first floor blank; sashes generally of original design, 4/4 on
the ground floor and 2/2 on the first; console brackets to
eaves with frieze of wreaths between; deep eaves; stacks
generally to party walls; the 3-storey 'tower' on the garden
front is visible above the roof with console brackets,
wreathed frieze and pedimented gable. Cast-iron railings to
area with spearhead finials.
Features of note on individual houses are: on Nos 33, 37 the
central first-floor window is not blocked; Nos 33, 37, 40, 42,
43 and 46-8 have flat-arched dormers; No.34 lacks console
brackets; Nos 39-41 have sashes with margin lights to ground
floor; No.42 has a small window inserted in place of
first-floor central window; No.46 has upper panel of door
glazed; the entrance bay of No.48 is on the left-hand return,
and this last house has 2 windows to Park Crescent proper,
then a chamfered corner with 2 blank windows; then 2 narrow
windows; then a projecting hipped entrance bay with a
flat-arched doorcase with side and overlights between antae;
flat-arched window above and quoins to sides; the bracketed
eaves continue round; west of this a 3-storey tower matching
that to No.1 Park Crescent (qv).
