House, now shop and offices. Late C18 or early C19. Faced by
flints in pitch, a rough cobble course alternating with a
squared and knapped course; painted brick dressings. The right
return is rendered in stucco. Gambrel roof of tile.
3 storeys and dormer over basement. 2-window range. C20 shop
front and entrance take up the entire ground floor. 2 canted
bays to first floor, each with tripartite, flat-arched
windows. To second floor there are 3 camber-arched windows
with projecting sills, and although all are of similar
dimension they are not symmetrically arranged. The lintels of
these windows intersect a brick dentil cornice. There are
brick quoin strips to corners and brick dressings to all upper
floor windows. Between second- and third window range on first
floor, there is an iron shop bracket of C19 date.
This listing applies to part of the cast-iron railings which
encloses the basement area of No.58 Ship Street (qv), but is
actually attached to No.57.
