Includes: Milverton House MILVERTON CRESCENT.
House, now flats. c1834-38 with later additions and
alterations. Brick with painted stucco facades, Welsh slate
roof and cast-iron verandah and balustrade.
EXTERIOR: garden facade: 2 storeys with basement to rear and
attics to gables, 3 first-floor windows, single-storey,
single-bay range to left. First floor: 6/6 sashes with sills
and in plain reveals, with tooled architraves. Frieze,
cornice. Ground floor: 6-pane French windows with divided
overlights under continuous verandah with
double-rod-and-anthemion motif. Frieze, cornice, blocking
course. Tall end stacks with cornices.
Entrance facade to right return of 4 first-floor windows.
First floor: 4/4 sash, blind opening, 6/6 sash, blind opening,
all in plain reveals and tooled architraves with sills. Frieze
and cornice act as sill band to attic windows: pair of 6/6
sashes in plain reveals and with tooled architraves. Shaped
gable with copings. Ground floor: off-centre entrance, steps
to part-glazed, 6-panel double-doors in surround with reeded
pilasters and side-lights, modillion cornice and elliptical
fanlight with radial glazing in distyle Roman Doric porch with
frieze and cornice. 1/1 sash and 2 blind openings in tooled
surrounds and with sills. Balustrade to porch has Carron
Company double-heart-and-anthemion motif.
To rear: mainly 6/6 sashes, tripartite window to ground floor
has 6/6 between 2/2 sashes, smaller tripartite window to
basement has 8/8 between 2/2 sashes.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms an architectural group with Nos 12-17 (consecutive)
Milverton Crescent (qqv).
