GV II

House. 1828-1834, with later additions and alterations
including those of late C19 and C20 to rear. Painted brick
with painted stucco to front and side facades, Welsh slate
roof and cast-iron railings.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 4 bays, the second of which projects and
the fourth is recessed. Full-height pilaster strips to ends of
bays 1 to 3. Step to entrance in second bay a C20 6-panel door
with pilaster strips supporting frieze and cornice with
guttae, elliptical overlight with glazing-bars, all within
surround of pilaster strips and elliptical arch. Ground and
first floors have tall 1/1 sashes, sills. Frieze, cornice, low
parapet with copings. End stacks.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Binswood Avenue was laid out c1828 and most
houses were built before 1834. Nos 1-29 (odd) Binswood Avenue
(qqv) form an architectural group.
