GV II

House. c1828-1832 with later alterations. Pinkish-brown brick
with painted stucco to front and side facades, Welsh slate
roof and cast-iron verandah.
2 storeys with attics, 3 bays with recessed single-storey bay
to left side. Entrance to side bay a 3-panel door behind
fluted Doric screen that adjoins No.20 (qv). Ground floor,
main facade has three 10-pane French windows in eared, tooled
surrounds. First floor has 12-pane sashes with eared
architraves and sills with feet. Eaves band. Roof dormers with
casement windows. End stacks. Verandah across ground floor has
delicate anthemion-motif pilasters.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: a complete square of stucco terraces laid out
c1828 to the plans of PF Robinson, architect, of Brook Street,
Mayfair. The houses were completed c1832, the gardens in the
Square were planted with trees in May 1830.
Nos 11-21 (consec) form an architectural set piece of fine
buildings.
