Terrace of 4 houses, now offices and attached railings.
c1822-1834, with later alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with
painted stucco facades, Welsh slate roof and cast-iron
railings and balcony.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement, 8 first-floor windows.
Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to basement
and ground floor; first and second floors have pilaster strips
to left end, then between windows 2 and 3, and to right of 4;
an Ionic pilaster to left of 5, between 6 and 7, and half an
Ionic pilaster to right end of main range.
First floor: tall, 6/9 sashes in plain reveals. Second floor:
6/6 sashes in plain reveals and with sills throughout. Ground
floor, windows: 6/6 sashes throughout in plain reveals, sills.
Entrances: shared to Nos 9 & 11, an off-centre entrance below
and to left of 3rd window, 9 roll-edged steps to 6-panel door
with overlight with glazing bars, plain reveals.
Similar entrance to No.13 below and to left of 5th window with
channelled reveals. Similar to No.15, below and to left of 7th
window. Basement: from left: plate-glass door, 1/8 sash,
blocked opening, 8/8 sash, 2 plate glass doors, 8/8 sash,
6-panel door, 8/8 sash. Tall ridge stacks. First floor has a
continuous balcony with double-rod-and-anthemion motif.
INTERIOR: to No.13 a staircase with stick balusters and
wreathed handrail.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings and to sides of steps have
anthemion finials.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Dormer Place, originally known as The
Promenade, was laid out c1822 and the north side built along
by 1834.
