House, now flats. 1828-1834, with later alterations.
Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco facades and Welsh
slate roof with cast-iron verandah.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows with
deeply-recessed, 2-storey, one first-floor window range to
right. Plinth. 5 roll-edged and one plain step to off-centre
entrance a 3-panel door, the lower panel roll-moulded, with
sidelights, within distyle Tuscan porch with frieze, cornice
and blocking course.
Windows: 6/6 sashes throughout except that opening to
first-floor left is blind, all with sills and in plain
reveals. Hipped roof, end and rear stacks. Garden facade (to
left): 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. First floor: three
6/6 sashes, plain reveals, sills, with Venetian shutter boxes
and shutters.
Ground floor: two 4-pane French windows with divided
overlights and with inserted casement between; 5 roll-edged
steps and 1 plain step to continuous verandah with scrolled
balustrade and ornamental struts.
Range to right has part-glazed entrance to ground floor and
1/1 sash to first floor.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Grove Street was laid out in 1828, the west
side and lower part of the east side were built by 1834.
Occupies a corner site, and forms an architectural group with
Nos 4-14 (even) Portland Place (qv).
