Formerly known as: No.63 BRANDON PARADE.
Includes: No.63 BRANDON PARADE.
House, now offices and flats. c1833, with later additions and
alterations including those of c1960. Reddish-brown brick with
stucco to front and side facades, painted to front and Welsh
slate roof with cast-iron balcony.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement and attics, 2 first-floor
windows; left bay projects to full height. First floor: tall
2/2 sash with sidelights in plain reveals to left. To right,
moulded first-floor band; a narrower, similar sash in plain
reveals. Moulded cornice to left acts as second-floor sill
band; two 6/6 sashes in plain reveals. Frieze. Cornice and
blocking course to left. Ground floor has tripartite window,
the centre a tall 2/2 sash with sidelights between narrow 2/2
sashes in plain reveals.
Entrance to right: 4 roll-edged steps to 3-fielded-panel,
part-glazed door with overlight in porch with Doric pillars,
frieze and cornice. Basement has 4/8 sash and 2 inserted
casements. Attic dormers. End stack.
Iron-work: ground floor, to left a balcony with
heart-and-anthemion motif. First floor: similar balcony to
left and further balcony above porch.
INTERIOR: original fireplaces. Openwell staircase with stick
balusters.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Holly Walk, part of the grounds of Newbold
Comyn, became a public thoroughfare early in the 1820s and was
laid out for building c1833.
