Terrace of 7 houses, now houses and flats and attached
railings. Numbered right to left. c1831 with later additions
and alterations including mid-late C20 attic dormers.
Reddish-brown brick with painted stucco facades and concealed
roofs, with cast-iron railings and balconies.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, attic and basement; 14-window range.
Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to ground
floor; to ends and to right of each house a pilaster with sunk
panel through first and second floors; continuous frieze and
deep, moulded cornice.
First floor: tall 6/9 sashes throughout in plain reveals and
with tooled architraves with friezes and cornices. Second
floor: 3/6 sashes throughout in plain reveals and with sills.
Ground floor: 7 steps to entrances to right of each house,
3-panel doors, the lower panel roll-moulded, that to right
part-glazed, with overlights, all with glazing-bars except to
left, in plain reveals and with pilasters with sunk panels,
and frieze. Windows, from left: three 6/6 sashes with
margin-lights; canted bay of three 1/1 sashes, frieze and
cornice; three 6/6 sashes with margin-lights; banded reveals
and sills. Attic dormers concealed behind cornice.
Basements have mainly 8/8 and 4/8 sashes, board and
part-glazed doors. Tall end stacks with cornices between
dwellings.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings to sides of steps have
decorative lancet finials and anthemion finials to newel
posts.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Leam Terrace was laid out 1828-36, both sides
as far as Willes Road were almost completely built by 1841.
Forms an architectural group with Nos 48-52 (even) (qv).
