Pair of semi-detached villas. c1834-8, with later additions
and alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco
facades, Welsh slate roof and cast-iron verandah.
EXTERIOR: centre of 2 storeys with basements and attics to
gables, 4 first-floor windows with single-storey, single-bay
side ranges.
Main range, first floor has 8/8 sashes in plain reveals with
tooled architraves and sills.
Ground floor has 6-pane French windows with divided
overlights.
End ranges have part-glazed doors, frieze, cornice and
blocking course.
Basements have 8/8 sashes otherwise concealed. Attic dormer to
No.17 and attics to gables (alike) have two 6/6 sashes.
Main range: to each dwelling a continuous verandah with
double-rod-and-anthemion-and-paterae motifs to balustrades and
uprights, scrolled frieze.
Rear: basement to street level, entrances part-glazed doors
with tooled architraves, No.16 has dentil cornice, No.17 has
cornice. Tripartite sashes, 6/6 between 2/2 with cambered
heads. Ground floors have tripartite windows, 2/2 between 1/1
sashes. First floor has 6/6 sashes, further 6/6 sash with
margin-lights to No.16.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Milverton Crescent was laid out and the south
half built 1834-8.
Forms an architectural group with Nos 12-15 (consecutive)
Milverton Crescent and Milverton House, No.11 Beauchamp Hill
(qqv).
Milverton Crescent allows pedestrian access only, the main
access is to the rear, from Strathearn Road.
