1208-1/9/257 NEWBOLD TERRACE EAST 25-MAR-1970 (North side) 34 NUMBER 34 AND ATTACHED RAILINGS (Formerly listed as: NEWBOLD TERRACE 34 NUMBER 34 AND ATTACHED RAILINGS)

House, now flats. c1828-1840, with later additions and
alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco porch,
ashlar sills, Welsh slate roof and cast-iron railings.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement and attics, 4 bays, that to
right canted from basement to first floor.
Entrance below 3rd window: 9 round-arched steps to double
6-panel door between part-glazed panels with fluted strips,
all under elliptical overlight with glazing bars and
rusticated arch and within distyle Tuscan porch with engaged
pilasters.
Basement has part-glazed, 5-panel door. 6/6 sashes throughout
except to sides of bay are 2/2 sashes, elliptically-arched
surround and flat-arches of gauged brick. Second-floor band.
Eaves band, blocking course. Roof dormers to attics, end and
ridge stacks. First floor has continuous balcony has pairs of
sticks joined by anthemions.
INTERIOR: openwell staircase has cast-iron, double-scroll
balustrade. Shutters to some rooms.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings and to sides of steps have
bars with anthemion finials.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Newbold Terrace was begun in 1828 but not
completed for many years.
