Includes: No.81 REGENT STREET.
Houses, now shop with flats and storage over. c1810-1818 with
later additions and alterations including probable stuccoing
c1835-1860, and mid-C20 ground floor with shop front and attic
dormers.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with attic, 3 first-floor windows. Ground
floor has remains of horizontal rustication to ends, cornice
surmounted by giant Egypto-Corinthian pilasters through first
and second floors, double frieze, cornice, blocking course,
copings. First floor has 6/1 sashes with moulded surrounds and
cornices. Second floor has 3/3 sashes with eared and moulded
surrounds, sills with feet. All windows in plain reveals. End
stack.
Similar facade to left return: 2 first-floor windows. Facade
projects and has similar tall pilasters to ends with a pair
between windows. Similar fenestration.
INTERIOR: remains of egg-and-dart cornice to first floor, but
interior walls removed.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the Parade was so-named in 1860. Originally
Lillington Lane, it was renamed Union Row c1809. The lower
section was laid out c1810-1814 and the original buildings
were brick fronted. Built as houses, hotels and
lodging-houses, by 1850 many had become shops.
Forms an architectural group with Nos 63-79 (odd) Regent
Street (qv). No.92A was listed on 25.3.70.
