Terrace of 5 houses, now shops with storage above. Numbered
right to left, described left to right. c1810-1818 with later
alterations including mid-C19 stuccoing and mid-C20
ground-floor shop fronts. Pinkish-brown brick, with ashlar
dressings to left (No.112) otherwise with painted stucco
facades and Welsh slate roofs.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, 10 first-floor windows, 2 per house.
First floor: tall 6/6 sashes throughout; second floor:
continuous ramped sill band, missing to second house from left
(No.118), 6/6 sashes throughout; third floor: 3/3 sashes
throughout; all in plain reveals, all to third floor with
sills, windows to house second from left (No.118) have tooled
architraves, windows to house to left (No.112) have flat
arches. Tall ridge stacks, missing to No.114. Rear: 6/6 and
3/3 sashes.
INTERIOR: No.112 has dog-leg staircase with stick balusters;
Nos 114 and 116 reputed to have similar staircases between
second and third floors and cornices to first floor, also
fireplaces; No.118 has dog-leg staircase from 1st floor with
stick balusters to 3rd floor and 2 Aesthetic Movement
fireplaces, cornices to first floor.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the Parade was so-named in 1860. Originally
called Lillington Lane, it was renamed Union Row c1809 and was
known as the Parade by 1860. The lower section was laid out
and built c1810-1818 and the upper section, east side, from
1824-1840. Built as houses, hotels and lodging-houses, by 1850
most had become shops. The original buildings were brick
fronted. Dr Jephson, the renowned Leamington physician after
whom Jephson Gardens were named practised at No.118 from
1820-1827.
No.116 was listed on 10.9.92; No.112 was formerly listed (on
18.8.80) with Nos 108 & 110 (now delisted); Nos 114, 118 and
120 are newly included.
