House, now shop. c1810-1814 with later additions and
alterations including mid-late C20 ground-floor shop fronts.
Pinkish-brown brick stack with painted stucco front facade and
concealed roof.
4 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. First floor: horizontal
rustication; tall 6/6 sashes. Second floor: 6/6 sashes with
sills. Third floor: 3/3 sashes, all in plain reveals and with
cambered heads with incised voussoirs and raised keystones.
Ground floor has C20 glazed entrance within glazed shop front.
Tall right stack with cornice.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the Parade was so named in 1860. Originally
Lillington Lane, it was renamed Union Row c1809, and then
Union Parade. The lower section was laid out c1810-1814. Built
as houses, lodging-houses and hotels, by 1850 many had become
shops. The original buildings were brick fronted.
Forms part of a good group of buildings.
