House, now bank and offices. Pinkish-brown brick with painted
stucco front facade and ashlar ground floor with Welsh slate
roof.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. c1835, with later
additions and alterations including early-C20 ground floor.
First floor: 6/3 sashes in tooled surrounds with frieze and
cornice.
Second floor: 6/6 sashes with moulded sills. Frieze, dentil
cornice. Third floor: 3/3 sashes. All windows in plain
reveals. Frieze, cornice, blocking course.
Ground floor: arcade with 2 arches and Ionic columns, entrance
to right and central entrance a 6-panel double door with
overlight. Otherwise ground floor has plate-glass windows with
divided overlights, with central stepped keystones and
horizontal rustication to surrounds. To rear are 6/6 sashes
and staircase sash with radial glazing to head. Attic dog-leg
staircase has stick balusters.
INTERIOR: noted as retaining original joinery including
shutters to some windows.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the Parade was so-named in 1860. Originally
called Lillington Lane, it was renamed Union Row c1809. The
lower section was laid out c1810-1814 and extended towards
Dormer Place c1835. Built as houses, hotels and
lodging-houses, by 1850 many had become shops.
Ground floor forms a continuous architectural unit with No.150
(qv).
