House, now shop. c1835 with later additions and alterations
including mid C20 shop front. Brick with painted stucco front
facade with ashlar dressings, and concealed roof.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. First floor: tall
6/6 sashes in tooled surrounds with frieze and cornice.
Frieze, dentil cornice.
Second floor: central round-arched window with glazing bars
and sill on consoles, between similar round-arched sashes
within tooled surrounds.
Third floor: continuous sill band, 3/6 sashes with feet in
tooled surrounds. Frieze, cornice, low parapet with 3 panels
of vase balusters. Ground floor projects slightly, clasping
Doric pilasters support first-floor balcony, otherwise
plate-glass windows. First floor has continuous balcony with
vase balusters in front of windows.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the Parade was so-named in 1860. Originally
called Lillington Lane, it was renamed Union Row c1809. The
lower section was laid out c1810-1814 and extended towards
Dormer Place c1835. Built as houses, hotels and
lodging-houses, by 1850 many had become shops.
