House now flats. c1824-36 with later alterations. Brick with
painted stucco facades and Welsh slate roof.
3 storeys with basement, 3 first-floor windows. First floor:
6/6 sashes; second floor: 6/6 sashes; ground floor: steps to
central entrance a 6-panel door with overlight, doorcase has
fluted pilasters and frieze, 6/6 sashes. All windows in plain
reveals and with sills. Basement has casement windows. Roof
hipped to right. Tall left end and rear stacks with cornices.
To right facade: 2 first-floor windows. Mainly 6/6 sashes,
third floor has one 3/6 sash. All in plain reveals and with
sills. To rear a 15-pane staircase window with radial glazing
to head, 6/6 and 3/6 sashes.
INTERIOR: shutters to some windows.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Portland Place and Portland Street were laid
out 1823-4.
Occupies a significant corner site at the junction of Portland
Place and Portland Street and forms a group with Nos 22-38
(even) Portland Street (qqv).
