House. c1824-1828, with later alterations. Pinkish-brown brick
with painted stucco to front facade, Welsh slate roof and
cast-iron porch and railings.
2 storeys with basement, 2 first-floor windows.
Windows: ground and first floor have 6/6 sashes throughout,
that to first floor left is lower and narrower. 4 steps to
side entrance a part-glazed, panelled door within pilastered
surround and with porch of scrolled cast-ironwork. Basement
has 6-panel door, 3/6 sash. Frieze, cornice, low parapet, end
stacks.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings to sides of steps and across
front facade, with gate to basement have bars with anthemion
finials.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Portland Place was laid out in 1823-4.
Nos 4-14 (even) Portland Place and Nos 52 and 54, Grove Street
(qqv) constitute an architectural group.
