Terrace of 9 houses, now houses and flats with attached
railings except to Nos 32 & 34. Numbered right to left,
described left to right. c1824-1836 with later additions and
alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco facades,
Welsh slate roofs and cast-iron railings and balconies.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, except to Nos 22, 34, 36 and 38 are 4
storeys, mainly with basements, 19 first-floor windows
arranged 2:2:3:2:2:2:2:2:2, and with single-storey entrance
bay to left.
First floor has two 12-pane French windows; two 10-pane French
windows; three 6/6 sashes; two 14-pane French windows; two
6-pane French windows; 2 tall 6/9 sashes; 2 tall 4/4 sashes; 2
tall 6/9 sashes; two 8-pane French windows with margin-lights.
Second floor: 3/6 sashes except to Nos 26 and 38 which have
6/6 sashes; continuous sill band to No.28, otherwise sills.
Third floor: mainly 3/6 sashes, casements to left.
Ground floor: central entrance to No.34, otherwise side
entrances, steps to 4-panel doors, some part-glazed, with
overlights, some with glazing bars. Mainly 6/6 sashes except
Nos 30 and 30 have 1/1 sashes and Nos. 34 and 36 have canted
bays, with 1/1 sashes and casements. Basements have panelled
doors, some glazed. End stacks. First-floor balconies: Nos 22
and 38 have heart-and-anthemion motif; to Nos 30 and 36 with
circle-and-anthemion motif; No.28 has figure-of-eight motif;
scroll-and-anthemion motif to No.26.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings and to sides of steps have
fleur-de-lys and anthemion finials.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Portland Street was laid out 1823-4.
Forms a group with No.13 Portland Place (qv).
