Terraced houses. c1850. Stucco, roof of slate.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys over basement with dormers, 3-window
range. The house fronts consist of full-height, and almost
full-width, segmental bays, with paired porches. Ground floor
decorated with banded rustication. Flat-arched porch with
pilasters and wreathed entablature (the wreaths missing on
60-61); doorcase with overlight, and panelled door of original
studded design, the doors now glazed on Nos 58 and 62. All
windows flat-arched, with moulded stucco architraves on the
first to third floors. First-floor windows with pediment to
the inner window, cornices to the outer; bracketed balcony
with bowed cast-iron balustrade; storey band above
second-floor windows; 6/6 and 3/6 sashes of original design to
second and third floors of Nos 58-60 and 63, and third floor
only of Nos 61-2; plaque in memory of Frederick William
Robertson on No.60; dentil cornice and blocking course;
dormers in mansard roof; stacks to party walls. Cast-iron area
railings with spear-and-tassel finials and console brackets.
Return to No.58 in Montpelier Place with architraves to all
windows on first to third floors, but all windows blank apart
from 2 on the ground floor and one on the second floor.
