Terraced house, divided into two. c1845. Stucco. Roof obscured
by parapet.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and attic over half basement. 4-window
range between the two. A 2-storey entry porch added to the
left of No.122; stairs up to 2 flat-arched entrances framed by
Tuscan pilasters and entablature; first-floor window is flat
arched with architrave; cornice and blocking course. Up stairs
to entrance of No.123, set under prostyle porch consisting of
fluted Doric columns supporting an entablature and blocking
course; central axis of this porch is in the centre of the
block, creating a bilaterally symmetrical elevation. Running
across the entire block is a 2-storey porch; cast-iron
railings of mid to late C19 date enclose ground-floor porch;
the first-floor verandah with metal concave roof with wood
valences; cast-iron railings and stanchions. At the corners of
the block a thin pilaster rises from the first floor through
the attic; over each pilaster the cornice projects to become a
moulded capital. All windows in No.122 have continuous
architraves, to ground and first floor only on No.123; 9 x 9
sashes of original design to all but the attic windows; the
latter with 6 x 6 sashes of original design; all sashes with
margin lights. The centre window in the attic is blocked and
filled with a metal window guard. Storey band between second
floor and attic. Stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Railings to stairs and areas. Entablature of distyle porch to
No.122 bears the words: "Rokesley House."
Nos 111-119 (consecutive), 122-133 (consecutive), and 133A
Marine Parade (qv) form a most important group together with
the whole of Marine Square.
