Corner house, now restaurant, shops and offices. C19. Stucco.
Roof obscured by parapet.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys over attic. 5-window range to Market
Street; left return to Prince Albert Street. 2-window range
and right return to Nile Street one-window range. Shop fronts
of C19 design: Tuscan pilasters and piers; entablature with
cornice, that to No.41 now covered over; and sections of
banded and chamfered rustication to right return. Several
flat-arched entrances: corner entrance to No.24 Prince Albert
Street; that to No.41A is placed in the middle of the Market
Street elevation; another entrance to Nile Street. All windows
are flat arched and all, except for the bay windows,have
projecting sills. The corner with Prince Albert Street is
curved in plan, set back slightly from the surrounding wall
surfaces and filled with a vertical panel intended for signage
but now bare. There is a continuous entablature to the top of
the entire block. The left return, or Prince Albert Street
elevation: 2 canted bays with tripartite windows to first and
second floors; above left-hand bay is a single, third-floor
window; above the right-hand bay are 3 windows closely spaced;
some sashes of original 8 x 8 design: first-floor window the
first-window range and all second-floor windows. The Market
Street elevation: 2 segmental bays to the first and second
floors; the second- and 4th-window ranges as well as the
third-floor window in the first-window range are blocked and
very narrow; storey bands between the first and second floors;
between the second and third floors is a continuous projecting
cornice; many sashes of original design, 6 x 6 to first-floor
window in first-window range. to tripartite bay windows, 6 x 6
to centre windows and 2 x 2 to sides, 6 x 6 sashes to single
window above each of the 2 bays. The right-hand return, or
Nile Street elevation: there is a canted bay to the first
floor of the first-window range, with sashes of original
design, 8 x 8 to centre window and 2 x 2 to sides; there are 3
windows to the second and third floors each; the first- and
second window ranges are blocked and the third-window range
has 6 x 6 sashes of original design to each floor. Stacks to
end and party walls.
