GV II

Houses, now shops and flats. Late C18 or early C19. Painted
brick in Flemish bond; left return of No.6 stucco cement
scored to imitate ashlaring. Gambrel roof of slate to Nos 6
and 7, dormers covered in metal. The roof of No.8 is 2-span
covered in slate turnerised.
2 storeys, Nos 6 and 7 with one dormer each. Nos 6 and 7 one
window each. No.8 has a 2-window range. C20 shop fronts to
ground floor. Camber-arched first-floor windows with
projecting sills; 8 x 8 sashes of original design to No.7.
No.8 has a brick dentil cornice; all have shallow, guttered
eaves. Stacks to party walls. During the extension of the
group to the rear in c1982, when the rear gardens were
cemented over, a tunnel at the south-west corner of No.6 was
also cemented over. Several old flint walls incorporated into
this extension.
These buildings form a most important group with Nos 1-5,
9-12, 22-32, 36-41 and 43-53 Meeting House Lane (qv), which is
the centre of the section of the Old Town known as The Lanes.
