25/09/90 metres north-west of Compton Verney
GV II
Gardener's cottage, or bothy. Late C18 with minor C19 and C20
additions. Coursed squared stone with dressed quoins; hipped
Welsh slate roof with lead rolls to hips and ridge and squat
stone return lateral stacks with yellow clay pots.
PLAN: 2-unit range with wide short wing to rear, C19
single-story wing to left end and small C20 re-entrant block
to rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; almost symmetrical 3-window range. Top
chamfered stone cornice. Entrance to right of centre has C20
lattice porch and flush-panel door. Windows have dressed stone
flat arches over 2-light small-paned casements, blind window
above entrance. Slate-roofed brick addition to left end has
C20 casements. Hipped roof to rear wing with 2-light and
3-light casements.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
The cottage is situated adjacent to the kitchen garden to
Compton Verney.
