Court house and house, now library and house, with attached
wall and railings. Late C18 with early C19 addition to left
end. Regular coursed lias limestone with ironstone ashlar
dressing; hipped slate roof with brick cross-axial stack and
end stack. Wall to Warwick Road of white and blue coursed
dressed limestone with ironstone quoins and flat coping.
L-plan.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; 4-window range; 2-storey, single-window
wing to left end. Top coved cornice and quoins; first-floor
sill band to wing. Entrance to right of wing has architrave,
overlight has fanlight with radial glazing bars over
small-paned half-glazed door; central entrance has
bolection-moulded architrave with frieze and segmental
pediment to small-paned half-glazed door.
Windows have sills and ashlar jambs, wedge lintels with keys
over 8/8 sashes, but ground-floor left end window has 2-light
small-paned casement and 5 top-floor windows have 4/8 sashes.
Wing has first-floor sill band cut flush; windows with sills
and architraves, 12/12 sash to ground floor and 6/6 sash to
first floor. 3-window left return retains sill band.
INTERIOR: stick-baluster staircase to library; rooms with
plaster detailing.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: left return has plain iron railings on
stone plinth with short return to front and extending approx
14m along Warwick Road, attached to back garden wall. Wall has
short return to library with gateway; and extends approx 12.5m
along Warwick Road.
