GV II

House, incorporating former blacksmith's forge. Late C17 with
C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Cob (or possibly
timber-frame) faced in stretcher-bond brick; thatched roof
with half-hipped and gabled ends with brick axial stack to
rear of ridge.
PLAN: small 2-unit plan, unit to right unheated, with rear
outshuts; C19 forge added to left and C20 addition to right.
EXTERIOR: single storey with attic. Entrance to right of
centre has C19 panelled door. Large window with C20 4-light
casement to left of centre. Wall stud remains to left of
window. Gable ends have C20 attic casements. Former forge to
left has concrete tile roof; 2 entrances, that to left end
segmental-headed, with plank doors, and 3 small square windows
with C20 casements; C20 addition has slate roof.
INTERIOR: recorded as: small main room has chamfered beam with
cavetto-step stops to one end only, and large brick fireplace
with chamfered bressumer with worn stops to one end. Entrance
hall with stair to rear. Common-rafter roof with exposed
purlins in attic rooms, the rafters replaced above purlin
level. The former forge has tie-beam trusses, one with king
post, the other halved and crossed to apex; C20 fireplace.
