The Old Smithy Cottage)

GV II

House. Late C16/early C17 with later additions and alterations
including extensions to right, left and to rear 1980s. Small,
square panels of timber-framing with painted plaster infill
and plain-tile roof with pinkish-brown brick stacks. 3-unit,
lobby-entrance plan.
EXTERIOR: single-storey with attics, 3-window range;
single-storey, single bay extensions to each end. Brick
plinth. Ground floor: steps to off-centre left entrance, plank
door in gabled porch. To right extension a further plank door.
Casement windows throughout with sills, that to left under
cambered arch. Steeply-pitched gabled roof with 3 gabled
dormers fitted with casements under cambered arches and with
sills. Large rear stack.
INTERIOR: chamfered beam to left room on huge corbel at right
end; exposed rafters to lobby; first floor has extensive
evidence of timber-framing throughout.
Forms a group with The Old Smithy (qv).
