Barn at The Redding's
GV II
Barn with pigsty. Late C17/ early C18, with C19 alterations.
Timber-framing with reddish-brown brick nogging and outshuts,
stone plinth in part and plain-tile roof. 6 bays with outshuts
to front to either side of porch. Square and rectangular
panels of timber-framing with tension brace to front facade at
left, similar panels to rear facade.
EXTERIOR: front: 5 entrances. Gabled full-height porch set
off-centre to right has renewed plank doors and timber-framing
to gable, this sits between 2 outshuts, that to right has
plank door and casement window; the outshut to left is under
catslide roof and constitutes the former pigsty with low plank
doors. To left again are steps to loft entered through a plank
door in moulded wood surround. To left, a renewed plank door
in moulded wood surround under elliptical arch; small window
to left. Gabled attic window has lattice lights. Gabled roof.
Barn extends to right but facade is obscured by later range of
stables.
INTERIOR: 2 bays to left have floor and exposed
timber-framing. Threshing floor has cross-frames. To side of
threshing floor a collar-and-tie-beam truss with queen posts
and upper angle struts, otherwise tie-beam trusses with lower
angle struts, all with clasped principals.
Forms a group with The Redding's (qv).
