SP25NE CHURCH STREET 1457-1/10/65 (South side) 18/03/97 Wall to south side of Churchyard of Church of St Peter including 3 headstones

GV II

Churchyard wall. Early-mid C18. Brick. High wall has gabled coping. West half of approx. 40m has high offset plinth and buttresses, and pointed-arched gateway to west end; buttress opposite east end of south aisle divides this section from east half approx. 35m, which has offset plinth and offset half way up the wall and ends with 2m-wide buttress. 3 early C18 headstones to members of the Smith family against wall to west end: Anthony Smith, d.1700 and Anthony his brother, d.1707: shaped top with cherub in oval above shield-shaped inscription panel; William Smith, d.1720, damaged stone; Samuel Smith, d.1776.
