Farmhouse with attached barn to south-east and cow sheds to
west. Probably C17 and C18 additions and later alterations
including C20 rebuilding. Timber-framed house and barn with
C18 painted brick front facade to house and C20 brick front to
barn, with brick cow sheds, plain-tile roofs. L-plan house of
3 units, 5-bay barn with outshut to left, and 6-bay range at
rear which comprises dairy, 2-bay pen and 3-bay cow shed.
EXTERIOR: farmhouse: one-storey and attic, 3-window range. 2
entrances, off-centre right and left have plank doors under
elliptical arches; outer windows are 2-light casements, to
centre a 3-light casement with glazing bars (some metal
windows), all under elliptical arches. 3 central openings
under C20 timber porch with plastic roof. Modillion eaves
band. 3 roof dormers have casement windows. End and ridge
stacks. Gabled roof continuous over barn. Outshut to right has
remains of bread oven.
Barn: 5 bays with outshut to rear at left. Central plank
divided doors to threshing floor, further double plank doors
to left and 2 plank pitching doors. Rebuilt facade in C20
brick. Left gable end has pitching opening under elliptical
arch; pigeon landing shelf and openings to gable head. Outshut
to left has elliptically-arched opening now blocked in.
Cow shed range: 6-bays 2 bays to right have brick infill,
otherwise open with brick and timber supports.
INTERIOR: farmhouse: room at right has inglenook fireplace
with massive bressumer beam, cupboard to left with board door;
original plank doors. Room to centre now has panelled dividing
wall making 2 smaller units, rear wall and main partition
walls have exposed small square panels of timber-framing,
inglenook fireplace with bressumer beam, chamfered spine beam;
corner cupboard with H-hinges. Another room has exposed
timber-framing. 2 staircases, one to rear between right and
centre room, one to front between centre and right room. First
floor: exposed purlins, tie beam and principal rafters; centre
room has extensive timbering to partition wall,
tie-and-collar-beam truss with angle struts; rear wall has
exposed timber-framing and wall-plate.
Barn: square panels of timber-framing almost intact inside the
outer walls, intact to front and rear at left. Dividing wall
to right (between house and barn) has exposed timbering, with
collar-and-tie beam truss with queen posts, 3 further similar
trusses, one with queen post, 2 with angle truss, then
principal rafters and collar beam; one tier of purlins. Cross
beams to threshing floor and further cross-beam to left.
Outshut at rear left forms aisle.
Cow shed range: probably mid C18: has original collar-and-tie
beam trusses with angle struts.
