GV II

House. c1840. For Robert Needham Philips. Brick with ashlar
dressings; slate roof with brick return lateral stack and
stacks to rear. Single-unit plan plus cross-wing to right.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3-window range. Stone-coped ashlar
plinth, wide eaves and enriched bargeboards. Entrance to left
of cross-wing has ashlar porch with coped parapet and gablet
over Tudor arch; battened inner door.
Single-chamfered mullioned windows project slightly; ground
floor has cross-mullioned window with label mould to left, and
cross-wing has canted bay window with ashlar hipped roof over
1:3:1 transomed lights; first floor has single light over
entrance, and 2-light window to left and to cross-wing, the
latter with label mould; all have decorative glazing with
elongated octagons. Gabled roofs.
Left return has bay window to gable. Right return has lateral
stack with 8 fluted sides to shafts; rear stack with octagonal
shafts; all with caps.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
