GV II
House. c1840. For Robert Needham Philips. Brick with ashlar
dressings and some blue brick diapering; fishscale tile roof
with brick cross-axial stack and end stacks with caps.
Single-unit plan with cross-wing to left, and rear wing.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Wide eaves and enriched bargeboards with
finials; terracotta cresting to roof.
Entrance in lean-to porch to right of cross-wing has 4-centred
ashlar head with label mould with battened inner door. Ground
floor has 3-light double-chamfered mullioned windows with
labelmoulds; first floor has canted oriel to cross-wing, with
moulded tapering apron and hipped roof with finial; 2-light
window in gabled half-dormer to right has trefoil above. No
decorative glazing as to other estate buildings, but glass is
rippled. Gabled roofs.
Left return has projecting window with hipped roof over 2-
plus 2-transomed lights; half-dormer above as to front.
Rear has wing with catslide roof over porch to return, which
has brick plinth to open timber-frame with twisted balusters,
part to right with late C20 timber infill and outer door. End
stack and some plain casements.
Right return has diapering to projecting stack and half-dormer
to rear wing to right.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
