Lady Chapel to Church of St Peter

GV II

Group of 7 headstones. 1700-1743. Limestone ashlar. Group of 2
abut one another, that to west has cambered head, that to east
has shaped head. Then stone with round-arched head and incised
decoration inscribed: `In Memory of/ Joseph Townsend' d.1743,
also Mary his wife, d.1766, and Hannah Harris their daughter.
To east of these a stone surmounted by broken swan-neck
pediment containing cherub-head, with rectangular panel with
moulded frame, inscription eroded.
To its east a headstone with rectangular panel in moulded
sides surmounted by winged cherub-head, inscription eroded. To
south of this a rectangular tablet with double-chamfered sides
surmounted by broken swan-neck pediment containing
deaths-head, inscription panel eroded. To its east a
rectangular tablet in moulded frame surmounted by broken
swan-neck pediment with circular motif within, inscription
panel eroded.
All the listed items in the Churchyard form a good group with
Church of St Peter (qv).
