II
House, probably originally a shop and c1850 formed part of the
Wootton Wawen, Henley and Ullenhall workhouse. C16 origins
with later additions and alterations including those of C18
with C20 extension to rear. Originally timber-framed, now
encased in brick with painted render and plain-tile roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. Central 6-panel
door with 2 glazed panels, in part-glazed porch. 12-pane metal
casement windows throughout, one in front of stack to first
floor. Gabled roof. Central stack with cornice. Overhang to
both gable ends, exposed purlins.
INTERIOR: has 6- and 4-panel doors. Wall-plate and studs for
jetty exposed. Wind braces exposed. Part of roof trusses are
visible.
The house formerly fronted northwards (ie. gable end) onto an
east-west road, the former main road through Wootton, at the
junction with the north-south road which passed St Peter's
Church (qv).
