Forest Cottage (No.20)

GV II

Pair of houses. Late C18 with later alterations. Brick; gabled
roof with renewed tiles with brick ridge and end stacks. Each
of central staircase, double-fronted, plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attic; 4-window range. Top dentilled
brick cornice. Recessed entrances reached up 3 stone steps
with iron handrails, both have doorcases with architraves,
cornice and dentilled pediments to 6-fielded-panel doors (2
panels glazed).
No.20 (left) has hipped bay windows with 1:3:1-light transomed
glazing and iron opening panes to returns;
No.18 (right) has C19 canted bays with frieze and cornice over
1/1:2/2:1/1 horned sashes. First floor has segmental-headed
windows, 2 with C20 uPVC frames to left and 2 with 4-pane
top-hung casements (replacing 2/2 sashes) with C20 shutters to
right. 4 dormers, 2 with hipped roofs to left, and 2 gabled,
all with 2-light casements.
Rear has 2-storey wing and 2 gabled dormers to left; C20
dormer to right, over single-storey wing with one return
window with 3-light small-paned casement with iron opening
casement.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
