Formerly known as: Old Bell Cottage, Little Home and Old Bell
House THE GREEN.
Inn, now 3 houses. C17 with C18 rebuilding and later additions
and alterations, in 2 stages of build. Reddish-brown brick in
English garden wall bond to house to left, otherwise Flemish
bond. Small timber-framing to left gable end. Gabled
plain-tile roofs. Long rectangular plan with taller rear
off-centre wing.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 7-window range altogether. 4 entrances,
from left: C20 part-glazed door, 4-panelled door in wood
doorcase, C20 plank door and C20 garage door. These alternate
with canted bay windows with multi-pane casements, those to
right are metal. First floor has metal casement windows with
glazing bars in wood-framed surrounds with one and 3 lights,
from left to right: 3, 3, 3, 1, 3, 1 and 3 lights.
Wrought-iron casement fasteners. Crown glass. Brick dentilled
eaves cornice. 3 ridge stacks and external left stack.
INTERIOR: Old Bell Cottage (left): small cupboard with plank
doors and butterfly hinges to entrance hall; chamfered beams
and plank doors; first floor has small amount of
close-studding to front, left room and to centre; right room
has jowled stud, tie-beam and brace; curved braces and purlin;
wall plate exposed. Middle Bell Cottage has inglenook
fireplace.
All the listed buildings on The Green form a group.
