SP14NE Admington Hall 1912-1/5/1 06/02/52 (Formerly Listed as: ADMINGTON Admington Hall) (Formerly Listed as: ADMINGTON Gate Piers at Admington Hall)


Mansion. C17 refronted c1800. Limestone ashlar; slate roofs. Georgian style front. Double-depth plan. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; 6-window range. Plinth; 1st floor sill band; top modillioned cornice and parapet. Entrance to right of centre has distyle-in-antis Tuscan porch with probably later infill with paired glazed doors and side sashes. Windows to ground floor have sills and architraves, friezes and pediments to 6/6 sashes; windows to 1st floor are similar, but with cornices and 3/6 sashes, tripartite window above entrance has 2/4:3/6:2/4 sashes; 2nd floor has windows with architraves and 3/3 sashes, tripartite window over entrance with 2/2:3/3:2/2 sashes. Hipped and gabled roofs with stone cross-axial stacks. French windows and stuccoed 2-storey wing to left return. Right return has continuous hoodmoulds to ground and 1st floors; inserted entrance and 3- plus 3-light ovolo-mullioned window with leaded glazing, one with diamond panes; 1st floor has 9-pane sash to left of blocked window. Rear is 2-storey with gabled dormers and 3-storey bay to left end; entrance in hipped porch with rounded angles to ovolo-moulded opening and heavy plank door; ground floor has 3 3- plus 3-light ovolo-mullioned windows; 1st floor has 4 2- plus 2-light windows with smaller 2-light window to right end; top floor has 3-light window and 3 gabled dormers with 2-light windows and coped gables with finials; 2-storey C19 brick wing to right end has single-storey service wing with datestone: M C/ 1813 (Michael Corbet). INTERIOR: hall has segmental arch across centre and some panelling; Adam-style fireplace; open-well ashlar staircase, probably originally in open court, has cantilevered moulded steps and enriched iron balusters. Some C19 fireplaces and panelling. Kitchen has large broadly chamfered beam, the end over king mullion of window, and large stone fireplace with bressumer extending over cupboard.
